Brass Bomber – Homemade Lure That Works

The Brass Bomber

Both styles of the Brass Bomber are  easy to make.  Size and weight can be dictated by fishing conditions.  The lures can be jigged vertically, trolled at depths or cast and retrieved.  When bent, the action increases.

They are easy and fun to make.

What You Need

                              Materials                                                               Tools                         

         1/2 ” copper pipe –  length – your choice                               hammer

               thin wire – copper or steel                                                     drill and bit

                          BBs or split shot                                                         pliers

                treble hooks – size – your choice

                    swivel – size – your choice

What You Do

Tube

    1. Cut copper tubing to desire length.  Four to six inches is recommended.
    2. Flatten one end of the tubing for about 1/2 inch.
    3. Drill a small hole through the flattened area of the tubing.
    4. Fill the tubing with BBs or split shot to the desire weight.
    5. Flatten the other end of the tubing for about 1/2 inch.
    6. Drill a hole in the flattened area of the tubing.
    7. Run a length of wire through the eye in the treble hook and one hole in the tubing.
    8. Make service passes with the wire through both holes so that the hook is about 1/2 inch from the tube.
    9. Cut the wire and twist the two ends together,
    10. Run a length of wire through the eye of the swivel and the hole in the tube.
    11. Repeat #7, #8 and #9.
    12. Polish the Brass Bomber as needed.

 

What You Do

Spoon

  1. Cut copper tubing to desired length.   Two to four inches is recommended.
  2. Flatten the entire piece of tubing.
  3. If desired, bend tubing slightly in the center or slightly at both ends in opposite directions.
  4. Follow step #6 – #12.
